Go to dashboardRoundcube's password plugin inserts error text from a password backend into the page without HTML escaping. A backend that can influence that text, such as the DirectAdmin API, can inject script that runs in a user's Roundcube session.

Teams running self-hosted Roundcube with the password plugin enabled and a backend driver such as DirectAdmin whose error text could be influenced by an attacker. Exposure depends on the driver feeding untrusted text into the error message; the sources do not say which drivers are unsafe beyond DirectAdmin. Installations without the password plugin are not described as affected.

Roundcube Webmail before 1.6.20 and 1.7.x before 1.7.5 is affected by a cross-site scripting vulnerability in the password plugin. Error text returned by a password driver was concatenated into the message presented to the user without HTML escaping, so a backend able to influence that text, such as the DirectAdmin API, could inject script into the Roundcube interface. Upstream fixed this in the commit “Fix XSS issue in handling of password driver error responses”, which escapes the driver message before display.
