# Linux kernel: AMD CPU may skip TLB invalidation, leaving stale mappings

On some AMD processors, an INVLPGB/TLBSYNC instruction pair can fail to invalidate a TLB entry. The kernel now detects the erratum and applies a software workaround when no microcode fix is present.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- unknown

## Fix

- Update to a Linux kernel release that includes the x86/CPU/AMD erratum #1718 fix
- Install the latest AMD microcode package if one is available for the processor

## Timeline

- 2026-10-26T16:02:26+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-99099

## From the sources

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

x86/CPU/AMD: Fix AMD TLBI Erratum #1718

The processor may fail to invalidate a TLB entry while executing an
INVLPGB/TLBSYNC instruction pair.

Detect the erratum and apply a software workaround when a microcode fix
is not present.
