# Advanced Custom Fields WordPress plugin: contributors can edit posts they cannot touch

Link for people: https://infrastack.ai/live/CVE-2026-97190 (this .md is for agents)

The Advanced Custom Fields plugin for WordPress skips an authorization check during bidirectional relationship sync. A contributor-level user can add or remove references to their own content on posts, users, or terms they are not allowed to edit.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed ACF plugin version in the WordPress admin under Plugins; compare it with `6.8.11`.
- Look for ACF relationship or bidirectional fields in use on the site.

## Fix

- Advanced Custom Fields (WordPress plugin): move to `6.8.11` or later, per the description (fixed before this version).

## Timeline

- 2026-11-07T06:46:04+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-97190

## From the sources

The Advanced Custom Fields (ACF®) WordPress plugin before 6.8.11 does not verify that a user is allowed to edit the target object before writing to it during bidirectional relationship synchronization, allowing users with contributor-level access and above to add or remove a reference to their own object on arbitrary posts, users, or terms they cannot otherwise edit.
