# The Food Store WordPress plugin: stored XSS via service_type cookie

The Food Store plugin for WordPress up to and including 1.5.5 writes an unauthenticated ?type= query value into a service_type cookie without sanitizing it, and later renders it unescaped. An attacker can get scripts to run in pages and in the admin panel when a user opens an injected page.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## Affected

- wordpress:food-store affected <= 1.5.5 fixed ?

## How to check

- WordPress admin > Plugins: is 'Food Store – Online Food Delivery & Pickup' (slug food-store) installed at 1.5.5 or lower? All released versions are affected.
- WP-CLI: wp plugin get food-store --field=version
- Look for suspicious script content in the service_type value of recent orders' meta.

## Fix

No patched release: 1.5.5 is the latest version and the plugin was closed on WordPress.org on Oct 23, 2026 pending review. Deactivate and remove it, or wait for a reviewed release.

## Timeline

- 2026-10-29T04:41:58+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-96669
- 2026-10-29T04:44:13+00:00 analyst — NVD/Wordfence CVSS 7.2. WordPress.org page (read) shows plugin closed Oct 23 2026, latest 1.5.5, so no fix exists; fix-status none. Patchstack lists it as unauthenticated stored XSS <= 1.5.5. No exploitation or PoC found; did not read Wordfence's own page. Not marked verified.

## From the sources

The Food Store – Online Food Delivery & Pickup plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via 'service_type' Cookie in all versions up to, and including, 1.5.5 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. The attack is seeded unauthenticated by supplying a payload via the ?type= query parameter on the public checkout page, which the plugin writes directly into the browser's service_type cookie; this cookie value is later persisted to order meta and rendered unescaped in the admin panel.
