# BuddyBoss Platform WordPress plugin: group name enables stored script injection

The BuddyBoss Platform plugin for WordPress does not sanitize group names, so a logged-in subscriber can store a script in a group name. That script runs in the browser of any user who opens a page showing the group.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed BuddyBoss Platform version in the WordPress plugins list; it is affected up to and including `3.6.0`.
- In WordPress admin, check whether the setting "Enable social group creation by all members" is turned on.

## Timeline

- 2026-10-31T10:34:56+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-96554

## From the sources

The BuddyBoss Platform plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via Group Name in all versions up to, and including, 3.6.0 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with subscriber-level access and above, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. This requires the "Enable social group creation by all members" setting to be enabled, which is the default and permits Subscriber-level users to create groups; exploitation is not possible if group creation is restricted to administrators.
