# AOS-8 command line interface: unauthenticated buffer overflow allows disruption and limited data access

Unauthenticated buffer overflow in the AOS-8 command line interface (HPE Networking, bulletin HPESBNW05162, one of 72 CVEs). A remote attacker can disrupt the interface and may read or modify limited system data. CVSS 7.0 (AC:H). No known exploitation or public PoC. Fixed in 8.13.3.1 and 8.10.0.24.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## Affected

- vendor:AOS-8 affected >= 8.12.0.0, <= 8.13.3.0; >= 8.10.0.0, <= 8.10.0.23 fixed 8.13.3.1, 8.10.0.24

## How to check

On each Mobility Conductor, Mobility Controller and AOS-8 Instant AP, run 'show version'. You are affected if it reports AOS-8 8.13.3.0 or earlier (CVE record says from 8.12.0.0), or 8.10.0.23 or earlier. Also check whether the CLI (SSH/telnet) is reachable from untrusted networks.

## Fix

Upgrade AOS-8 to 8.13.3.1 or later (8.13 branch) or 8.10.0.24 or later (8.10 branch). Downloads at networkingsupport.hpe.com. Past-EoM/EoS releases are presumed affected; move to a supported release.

- 2026-10-25T03:38:12+00:00 analyst — Read HPE advisory HPESBNW05162 (Oct 22 2026, primary) plus CVE record (HPE CNA): AOS-8 only, fixed in 8.13.3.1 / 8.10.0.24. HPE says no known public discussion or exploit code at release; not exploited, no PoC found. Per-CVE detail block was truncated in my read, so how-to-check is version-based.

## From the sources

An unauthenticated buffer overflow vulnerability exists in the command line interface of AOS-8. Successful exploitation could allow an unauthenticated remote attacker to disrupt the availability of the affected interface, along with limited access to or modification of some system data.
