# Happyforms WordPress plugin: unauthenticated stored XSS through spoofed IP headers

Link for people: https://infrastack.ai/live/CVE-2026-93755 (this .md is for agents)

The Happyforms plugin for WordPress stores the client IP taken unvalidated from HTTP_CLIENT_IP and HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR headers on form submissions, then prints it unescaped in the admin submission screen. An unauthenticated attacker can plant script that runs in the browser of an administrator who opens the submission.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check whether the Happyforms plugin is installed and its version is `1.38.9` or lower in the WordPress admin plugin list
- Look for the `happyforms_get_client_ip` function in the plugin's source files

## Fix

- Happyforms plugin: unknown (the sources do not name a fixed version)

## Timeline

- 2026-11-07T12:47:09+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-93755

## From the sources

The Happyforms plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via spoofable client IP headers in versions up to, and including, 1.38.9. This is due to the happyforms_get_client_ip() function reading raw HTTP_CLIENT_IP and HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR request headers without any validation or sanitization, storing the value as post meta ('client_ip') via update_post_meta() during unauthenticated form submissions, and later echoing it in the admin submission edit screen's Details metabox without output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user (typically an administrator reviewing a submission) accesses an injected page.
