# libmodulemd: unbounded decompression of compressed YAML causes denial of service

libmodulemd, a library for parsing Fedora/RHEL modulemd metadata, does not cap the total decompressed size of compressed YAML in builds with rpmio support. A crafted, highly compressible file can exhaust CPU and memory on the parsing host.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## From the sources

A flaw was found in libmodulemd. In builds with rpmio support enabled, compressed modulemd YAML is decompressed through a custom read handler that does not enforce a cumulative decompressed-size limit before parsing. An attacker who can supply a highly compressible compressed YAML file can cause excessive CPU and memory consumption, resulting in a denial of service.
