# curl: long cookie from a remote server makes later cookie-jar reads drop cookies

A remote HTTP server can send a cookie with a long name and value that curl writes into a Netscape-format cookie jar as an over-long line. Later curl runs reading that jar with --cookie silently stop parsing at that line and ignore the valid cookies after it.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Run `curl --version` and compare against the fixed version in the advisory.
- Check whether scripts use `curl --cookie-jar` or `--cookie` with a shared cookie file.

## Fix

- Upgrade curl to a release that includes the fix (fixed version: unknown in the sources).
- Delete or regenerate cookie jar files that may already contain an overlong line.

## Timeline

- 2026-10-23T21:57:21+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-92386

## From the sources

When writing a long cookie name and value to a Netscape cookie jar, a remote
HTTP server can make `curl` write a record that exceeds its line-length
parsing limit. Consequently, any subsequent `curl` invocation reading from
that same cookie jar using `--cookie` silently aborts parsing prematurely upon
encountering the too long line, ignoring all subsequent valid cookies in the
file.
