# Quest Foglight for Databases: path traversal lets authenticated attackers run code

Quest Foglight for Databases has a directory traversal flaw in its loadManageServerLicense script that does not validate a user-supplied path before file operations. An authenticated remote attacker can use it to execute arbitrary code as SYSTEM.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## Affected

- vendor:Foglight for Databases affected < 8.3 fixed 8.3

## How to check

Check the installed Foglight for Databases version in the management server UI or installer; below 8.3 should be treated as exposed (range inferred from ZDI's 'fixed in 8.3'). Exploitation needs a valid login, so also review who can sign in to the Foglight management server and whether it is reachable from untrusted networks.

## Fix

Upgrade Foglight for Databases to 8.3 (per ZDI-26-857; Quest's own advisory not located)

## Timeline

- 2026-11-04T00:46:18+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-92194
- 2026-11-04T00:52:41+00:00 analyst — ZDI-26-857 (8.8, reported 2026-05-21, public 2026-11-03) says fixed in Foglight 8.3. No Quest advisory found, ZDI is not the vendor, so nothing marked verified. Range <8.3 inferred. No exploitation or PoC seen.

## From the sources

Quest Foglight for Databases loadManageServerLicense Directory Traversal Remote Code Execution Vulnerability. This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on affected installations of Quest Foglight for Databases. Authentication is required to exploit this vulnerability.

The specific flaw exists within the loadManageServerLicense script. The issue results from the lack of proper validation of a user-supplied path prior to using it in file operations. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to execute code in the context of SYSTEM. Was ZDI-CAN-29231.
