# Quest Foglight for Databases: XML parser flaw leaks server files to attackers

Quest Foglight for Databases, a database monitoring product, has an XML external entity flaw in its AbstractParser class. A remote attacker can send a crafted XML document that makes the parser read local or internal URIs and return their contents, exposing sensitive information.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## Affected

- vendor:Foglight for Databases affected < 8.3 fixed 8.3

## How to check

- Check your Foglight version in the Foglight web console (About) or the installed Foglight for Databases release; anything older than 8.3 is listed as fixed-in 8.3 by ZDI, so treat it as exposed.
- Check whether the Foglight management server is reachable from untrusted networks; no authentication is needed to exploit this.

## Fix

Upgrade Quest Foglight for Databases to Foglight 8.3 (per ZDI-26-862; Quest's own advisory not found).

## Timeline

- 2026-11-04T00:46:18+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-92185
- 2026-11-04T00:53:37+00:00 analyst — ZDI-26-862 (read directly) says fixed in Foglight 8.3; no Quest advisory found, so nothing marked verified. Sibling CVEs (ZDI-26-859..868) share the same fix. No exploitation or PoC seen.

## From the sources

Quest Foglight for Databases AbstractParser XML External Entity Processing Information Disclosure Vulnerability. This vulnerability allows remote attackers to disclose sensitive information on affected installations of Quest Foglight for Databases. Authentication is not required to exploit this vulnerability.

The specific flaw exists within the AbstractParser class. Due to the improper restriction of XML External Entity (XXE) references, a crafted document specifying a URI causes the XML parser to access the URI and embed the contents back into the XML document for further processing. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to disclose information in the context of SYSTEM. Was ZDI-CAN-28929.
