# Oracle Essbase: Java Based Agent flaw leaks a subset of data

An unauthenticated remote attacker can reach the Java Based Agent in Oracle Essbase over HTTP, but exploitation is hard. A successful attack gives read-only access to a subset of data Essbase can reach.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## Affected

- vendor:oracle essbase affected = 21.8.3.0.0 fixed ?

## How to check

- Confirm the deployed Essbase version with the Oracle admin tools; the affected version listed is `21.8.3.0.0`
- Check whether the Java Based Agent component is running and reachable over HTTP from untrusted networks

## Fix

- Apply the Oracle Critical Patch Update fix for Essbase; the sources do not name the fixed version
- Restrict network access to the Essbase agent endpoints

## Timeline

## From the sources

Vulnerability in Oracle Essbase (component: Java Based Agent). The supported version that is affected is 21.8.3.0.0. Difficult to exploit vulnerability allows unauthenticated attacker with network access via HTTP to compromise Oracle Essbase. Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized read access to a subset of Oracle Essbase accessible data. CVSS 3.1 Base Score 3.7 (Confidentiality impacts). CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N).
