# Oracle Solaris Utility flaw lets a local user take over the system

A flaw in the Utility component of Oracle Solaris 11.3 and 11.4 lets an attacker who already has a logon on the machine compromise the operating system. Per the CVSS vector, no user interaction or privileges are needed beyond local access, and a successful attack gives full takeover.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Run `uname -v` or `pkg info entire` to see the Solaris release, and compare it with the fixed level in Oracle's advisory.
- Check whether the system is running Solaris 11.3 or 11.4 at all; releases outside those lines are not listed as affected.

## Fix

- Apply the Oracle Critical Patch Update fix for Solaris 11.3 and 11.4 (`pkg update` on a system with the Oracle support repository configured), then reboot.
- Exact fixed package versions: unknown; the sources do not list them.
