# Oracle Solaris 11.4: Utility flaw lets local users change protected data

A flaw in a Utility component of Oracle Solaris 11.4 lets a low-privileged local user with logon access alter data they should not be able to change. The CVSS vector shows high integrity impact with scope change, so affected data beyond Solaris can be modified.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Run `pkg info entire` on the Solaris host and compare the version against the fixed release in Oracle's advisory
- unknown for other checks: the sources do not say which Utility command or setting is involved

## Fix

- Apply the Oracle Solaris 11.4 Critical Patch Update that contains the fix, per the Oracle advisory (version unknown in the sources)

## From the sources

Vulnerability in the Oracle Solaris product of Oracle Systems (component: Utility). The supported version that is affected is 11.4. Easily exploitable vulnerability allows low privileged attacker with logon to the infrastructure where Oracle Solaris executes to compromise Oracle Solaris. While the vulnerability is in Oracle Solaris, attacks may significantly impact additional products (scope change). Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized creation, deletion or modification access to critical data or all Oracle Solaris accessible data. CVSS 3.1 Base Score 6.5 (Integrity impacts). CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:N/I:H/A:N).
