# Dell PowerProtect Data Domain: privilege management flaw lets admins escalate rights

Several Dell PowerProtect Data Domain release lines contain an improper privilege management flaw. A high-privileged attacker with remote access could potentially escalate their privileges on the appliance.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed Data Domain OS version against the affected ranges in the Dell advisory (Feature Release 7.7.1.0 through 8.7; LTS2024 7.13.1.0 through 7.13.1.80; LTS2025 8.3.1.0 through 8.3.1.40; LTS2026 8.6.1.0 through 8.6.1.20)
- Review which accounts hold high privileges on the appliance and who can reach its management interface remotely

## Fix

- Move to a Data Domain OS release outside the affected ranges, as listed in the Dell security advisory (version numbers not stated in the sources)
- Limit remote management access to the appliance to trusted networks

## Timeline

- 2026-10-27T12:31:38+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-90729
