# Dell PowerProtect Data Domain: local high-privilege user can escalate privileges

Several release lines of Dell PowerProtect Data Domain contain an improper privilege management flaw. A high-privileged local attacker could use it to gain higher privileges on the appliance.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed Data Domain OS version against the affected ranges: Feature Release 7.7.1.0 through 8.7, LTS2024 7.13.1.0 through 7.13.1.80, LTS2025 8.3.1.0 through 8.3.1.40, LTS2026 8.6.1.0 through 8.6.1.20.
- Review which accounts hold high-privilege local access to the appliance.

## Fix

- Move Data Domain OS to a fixed release from Dell's advisory for CVE-2026-90728 (unknown: the sources do not name the fixed version).
- Restrict high-privilege local accounts to the people who need them.

## Timeline
