# Apache OpenOffice: crafted PDF import causes memory corruption and crashes

Apache OpenOffice versions through 4.1.16 mishandle memory while importing PDF files, so a crafted PDF can write outside a buffer. The result is a program crash or memory corruption, and the sources do not say whether code execution is possible.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed OpenOffice version in Help > About (the sources do not name a specific command)
- Versions up to and including `4.1.16` are affected

## Fix

- Apache OpenOffice: upgrade to `4.1.17`

## Timeline

- 2026-11-04T11:26:46+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-90626

## From the sources

An uncontrolled memory access in the PDF import code of Apache OpenOffice versions through 4.1.16 allows a crafted PDF to cause an out-of-bounds memory write, causing program crash or memory corruption.
Users are recommended to upgrade to version 4.1.17, which fixes this issue.
