# Apache OpenOffice: crafted PDF import causes out-of-bounds memory write

Apache OpenOffice up to 4.1.16 has an unchecked memory access in its PDF import code. A crafted PDF can trigger an out-of-bounds memory write that crashes the program or corrupts memory.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed OpenOffice version via Help > About (or the version shown in the install directory); versions through `4.1.16` are affected.

## Fix

- Apache OpenOffice: upgrade to `4.1.17`.

## Timeline

- 2026-11-04T11:26:46+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-90624

## From the sources

An unchecked memory access in the PDF import code of Apache OpenOffice versions through 4.1.16 on allows a crafted PDF to execute an out-of-bounds memory write. This could crash the program or cause memory corruption.
Users are recommended to upgrade to version 4.1.17, which fixes this issue.
