# OpenStack Ironic: vendor_passthru lets callers delete BMC Redfish accounts

OpenStack Ironic before 39.0.1 exposes DELETE and GET methods through vendor_passthru, which can be used to act on the BMC. An attacker who can reach that API can delete accounts on the BMC's Redfish service.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed Ironic version with `openstack baremetal driver list` or the `ironic-api` package version; versions below `39.0.1` are affected.
- Confirm whether the Ironic API is reachable from untrusted networks.

## Fix

- Upgrade OpenStack Ironic to `39.0.1` or later.
- Restrict access to the Ironic API and BMC management networks until patched.

## From the sources

OpenStack Ironic before 39.0.1 allows DELETE and GET via vendor_passthru, e.g., to delete accounts from the BMC's Redfish service.
