# WordPress Weglot plugin: unescaped URLs let visitors store browser-running payloads

The Translate WordPress with Weglot 2.0 plugin re-inserts URLs into translated pages without escaping them, and reverses earlier encoding on them. An unauthenticated attacker can store a script that runs in the browser of anyone who views the page in a translated language.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed version of the Weglot plugin (Translate WordPress with Weglot 2.0) in the WordPress admin under Plugins, or with `wp plugin get weglot --field=version`
- Look for translated language URLs on the site and test whether they reflect injected input

## Fix

- Update the Weglot plugin to `6.4.3` or later
- unknown whether a workaround exists before updating

## Timeline

- 2026-10-23T21:57:28+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-88784
- 2026-10-24T13:15:54+00:00 epss https://api.first.org/data/v1/epss?cve=CVE-2026-88784

## From the sources

The Translate WordPress with Weglot 2.0 WordPress plugin before 6.4.3 does not escape the URLs it re-inserts into a page when rewriting links for a translated language, and reverses the encoding that was applied to them beforehand, allowing unauthenticated users to store a payload which executes in the browser of anyone viewing the page in a translated language.
