# Oracle HTTP Server: OSSL module flaw lets low-privilege users take over

A flaw in the OSSL module of Oracle HTTP Server 12.2.1.4.0 and 14.1.2.0.0 (CVSS 9.6, scope changed) lets a low-privileged network attacker read and modify critical data, with impact on other components. Fixed in Oracle's October 2026 CPU. No exploitation reported.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## Affected

- vendor:Oracle HTTP Server affected 12.2.1.4.0, 14.1.2.0.0 fixed 12.2.1.4.0 + patch 40005842, 14.1.2.0.0 + patch 39987730

## How to check

On the OHS host run: $ORACLE_HOME/OPatch/opatch lspatches and look for 40005842 (12.2.1.4.0) or 39987730 (14.1.2.0.0). Run $ORACLE_HOME/OPatch/opatch version / check the OHS version to see if you run 12.2.1.4.0 or 14.1.2.0.0. Also check whether the OSSL module (mod_ossl) is loaded in httpd.conf / ssl.conf. Tenable plugins 369017 and 369018 detect it.

## Fix

Apply the October 2026 CPU patch for Oracle HTTP Server: patch 40005842 for 12.2.1.4.0, patch 39987730 for 14.1.2.0.0 (per Rapid7; confirm in the CPU advisory/My Oracle Support). Oracle gives no workaround; limiting network access to OHS to trusted segments only reduces exposure (Armis).

## From the sources

Vulnerability in the Oracle HTTP Server product of Oracle Fusion Middleware (component: OSSL Module). Supported versions that are affected are 12.2.1.4.0 and 14.1.2.0.0. Easily exploitable vulnerability allows low privileged attacker with network access via HTTP to compromise Oracle HTTP Server. While the vulnerability is in Oracle HTTP Server, attacks may significantly impact additional products (scope change). Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized creation, deletion or modification access to critical data or all Oracle HTTP Server accessible data as well as unauthorized access to critical data or complete access to all Oracle HTTP Server accessible data. CVSS 3.1 Base Score 9.6 (Confidentiality and Integrity impacts). CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:N).
