# Apple iOS and macOS: malicious font can leak process memory

A out-of-bounds read in Apple's font processing lets a maliciously crafted font trigger the disclosure of process memory. An attacker who gets a user to process such a font can read memory from the affected process.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Compare the installed OS version against the fixed versions: `iOS 26.7.2`, `iPadOS 26.7.2`, `iOS 27.2`, `macOS Sequoia 15.8.2`, `macOS Tahoe 26.7.2`, `macOS Golden Gate 27.2`, `tvOS 27.2`, `visionOS 27.2`, `watchOS 27.2`

## Fix

- Update iPhone and iPad to `iOS 26.7.2` / `iPadOS 26.7.2` or `iOS 27.2` / `iPadOS 27.2`
- Update Mac to `macOS Tahoe 26.7.2`, `macOS Sequoia 15.8.2`, or `macOS Golden Gate 27.2`
- Update `tvOS 27.2`, `visionOS 27.2`, and `watchOS 27.2` on those devices

## Timeline

## From the sources

An out-of-bounds read was addressed with improved input validation. This issue is fixed in iOS 26.7.2 and iPadOS 26.7.2, iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2, macOS Golden Gate 27.2, macOS Sequoia 15.8.2, macOS Tahoe 26.7.2, tvOS 27.2, visionOS 27.2, watchOS 27.2. Processing a maliciously crafted font may result in the disclosure of process memory.
