# Apple iOS and macOS: crafted image crashes a process via input validation

Apple's operating systems mishandle a maliciously crafted image, causing a process to terminate unexpectedly. The sources describe a crash (denial of service), not code execution or data access.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the device OS version in Settings > General > About (iOS/iPadOS) or About This Mac (macOS) against the fixed versions below
- unknown for any other check, the sources do not say

## Fix

- Update iOS and iPadOS to `26.7` or `27`
- Update macOS Tahoe to `26.7`, macOS Sequoia to `15.8`, or macOS Golden Gate to `27`

## Timeline
