# Apple: out-of-bounds read lets nearby attacker crash iOS and macOS

An out-of-bounds read in Apple's operating systems can be triggered by an attacker in wireless proximity. The result is an unexpected system termination, which is a crash rather than code execution.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the device version under Settings > General > About (iOS, iPadOS, visionOS) or Apple menu > About This Mac (macOS, versions listed as `26.7`, `15.8`, `27`).
- Compare against the fixed versions: iOS and iPadOS `26.7` or `27`, macOS Tahoe `26.7`, macOS Sequoia `15.8`, macOS Golden Gate `27`, tvOS, visionOS and watchOS `27`.

## Fix

- Update iOS and iPadOS to `26.7` or `27`.
- Update macOS Tahoe to `26.7`, macOS Sequoia to `15.8`, or install macOS Golden Gate `27`.
- Update tvOS, visionOS and watchOS to `27`.

## From the sources

An out-of-bounds read was addressed with improved bounds checking. This issue is fixed in iOS 26.7 and iPadOS 26.7, iOS 27 and iPadOS 27, macOS Golden Gate 27, macOS Sequoia 15.8, macOS Tahoe 26.7, tvOS 27, visionOS 27, watchOS 27. An attacker in wireless proximity may be able to cause unexpected system termination.
