# Apple: crafted image crashes apps through an out-of-bounds read

An out-of-bounds read in Apple's image processing lets a maliciously crafted image terminate the app that opens it. The sources describe a crash, not code execution or data disclosure.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## Fix

- Update iOS and iPadOS to `26.7.2` or later, and iOS/iPadOS 27 when released
- Update macOS Tahoe to `26.7.2`, macOS Sequoia to `15.8.2`, and macOS Golden Gate 27
- Update tvOS, visionOS and watchOS to 27

## Timeline

## From the sources

An out-of-bounds read was addressed with improved bounds checking. This issue is fixed in iOS 26.7.2 and iPadOS 26.7.2, iOS 27 and iPadOS 27, macOS Golden Gate 27, macOS Sequoia 15.8.2, macOS Tahoe 26.7.2, tvOS 27, visionOS 27, watchOS 27. Processing a maliciously crafted image may lead to unexpected app termination.
