# Apple iOS and macOS: out-of-bounds read lets an app crash the system

An out-of-bounds read in Apple's operating systems lets a malicious app trigger a denial of service. The sources say the flaw is fixed by bounds checking in the listed Apple releases.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the device OS version in Settings > General > About (iOS, iPadOS, visionOS) or with `sw_vers` on macOS.
- unknown for any other check; the sources do not say which component is affected.

## Fix

- Update iOS and iPadOS to `26.7.2` or later, or to iOS 27 and iPadOS 27.
- Update macOS Tahoe to `26.7.2`, macOS Sequoia to `15.8.2`, or to macOS Golden Gate 27.
- Update visionOS to 27.
