# Dell PowerProtect Data Domain: privileged user can escalate privileges remotely

Several Dell PowerProtect Data Domain release lines contain an improper privilege management flaw. A high-privileged remote attacker can potentially escalate their privileges on the appliance.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed Data Domain OS version against the affected ranges listed in the advisory (Feature Release 7.7.1.0 through 8.8, LTS2024 7.13.1.0 through 7.13.1.80, LTS2025 8.3.1.0 through 8.3.1.40, LTS2026 8.6.1.0 through 8.6.1.20).
- Review which accounts hold high-privilege roles on the appliance.

## Fix

- Move Data Domain OS to a release fixed by Dell's advisory for the affected line; the sources do not name the fixed version, so unknown.
