# Improper certificate trust validation during VPN negotiation in Check Point Quantum Security Gateway may allow an…

Check Point Security Gateway and Spark Firewall appliances accept certificates improperly during Site-to-Site and Remote Access VPN handshakes, so an unauthenticated remote attacker can execute arbitrary code on the gateway. CISA lists it as actively exploited in the wild.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## Affected

- vendor:Check Point Multiple Products affected ? fixed ?
- vendor:checkpoint gaia embedded affected >= r81.10.00, < r81.10.17 fixed r81.10.17
- vendor:checkpoint gaia embedded affected >= r82.00.00, < r82.00.10 fixed r82.00.10
- vendor:checkpoint gaia embedded affected = r81.10.17 fixed ?
- vendor:checkpoint gaia embedded affected = r82.00.10 fixed ?
- vendor:checkpoint gaia os affected >= r80, < r81.10 fixed r81.10
- vendor:checkpoint gaia os affected = r81.10 fixed ?
- vendor:checkpoint gaia os affected = r81.20 fixed ?
- vendor:checkpoint gaia os affected = r82 fixed ?
- vendor:checkpoint gaia os affected = r82.10 fixed ?

## How to check

Check whether the gateway runs Site-to-Site or Remote Access VPN and confirm the exact affected version in the Check Point advisory: unknown
Review Check Point's vendor advisory for the fixed build: unknown
Review gateway logs for unexpected VPN connections and forensics artifacts per CISA guidance: unknown

## Fix

Apply the vendor mitigation or hotfix from Check Point as directed by CISA; the specific version is unknown in the sources.
If no mitigation exists, take the affected VPN service offline or discontinue use until patched, per BOD 26-04.

## From the sources

Check Point Security Gateway and Check Point Spark Firewall using Site to Site VPN or Remote Access VPN contain an improper certificate validation vulnerability which could allow an unauthenticated remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the Gateway.

CISA required action: Apply mitigations in accordance with vendor instructions, ensuring compliance with CISA’s BOD 26-04 Prioritizing Security Updates Based on Risk (see URL in Notes) guidance and CISA’s “Forensics Triage Requirements” (see URL in Notes). Follow applicable BOD 26-04 guidance for cloud services or discontinue use of the product if mitigations are unavailable. Stakeholders are responsible for evaluating each asset's internet exposure and ensuring adherence to BOD 26-04 patching guidelines.
