# WordPress YouTube player plugin lets contributors read and alter presets

The Video Player for YouTube WordPress plugin before 2.1.4 skips a permission check on its player-preset AJAX handler. Users with the Contributor role or higher can read the site-wide player configuration, and before 2.1.1 they could also change or delete it.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Look at the installed version of the Video Player for YouTube plugin in the WordPress admin plugin list, and check whether it is below `2.1.4`.
- Review which accounts hold the Contributor role or higher on the site.

## Fix

- Update the Video Player for YouTube plugin to `2.1.4` or later.

## Timeline

- 2026-10-29T06:53:14+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-85007

## From the sources

The Video Player for YouTube WordPress plugin before 2.1.4 does not perform a capability check on its player-preset AJAX handler, allowing users with the Contributor role and above to read the site-wide player-preset configuration, and in versions before 2.1.1 to modify and delete it as well.
