# connectwise screenconnect: A condition in the ScreenConnect client may allow files to be transferred and executed through an active remote…

ScreenConnect client-side missing authorization (CVSS 9.9): files can be transferred and executed on the Host machine through an active session without Host confirmation, including elevated execution. Servers are not impacted. Affects Support and Access sessions, Cloud and On-Premise. Exploited in the wild (CISA KEV 2026-09-11). ConnectWise-hosted cloud servers are already updated, but host clients and access agents should be reinstalled or updated.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## Affected

- vendor:ConnectWise ScreenConnect affected < 26.6.5 fixed 26.6.5
- vendor:connectwise screenconnect affected < 26.6.5.9742 fixed 26.6.5.9742
- vendor:ConnectWise ScreenConnect affected ? fixed ?

## How to check

On-premise: check the ScreenConnect server version in Administration > Status or the product version; anything below 26.6.5 is affected. Cloud: reinstall host clients and access agents per ConnectWise docs. Check Administration > Security > Roles for which roles still have TransferFiles.

## Fix

On-premise: upgrade to ScreenConnect 26.6.5 or later (Automate-integrated: via Automate Product Updates; the license must be in maintenance). Temporary mitigation: in Administration > Security > Roles, remove the TransferFiles permission from every session group in every role. Cloud: no server action, but update host clients and access agents.

## From the sources

ConnectWise ScreenConnect contains both an improper privilege management and missing authorization vulnerability that may allow an attacker to transfer and execute files through an active remote session without authorization or host confirmation.

CISA required action: Apply mitigations in accordance with vendor instructions, ensuring compliance with CISA’s BOD 26-04 Prioritizing Security Updates Based on Risk (see URL in Notes) guidance and CISA’s “Forensics Triage Requirements” (see URL in Notes). Follow applicable BOD 26-04 guidance for cloud services or discontinue use of the product if mitigations are unavailable. Stakeholders are responsible for evaluating each asset's internet exposure and ensuring adherence to BOD 26-04 patching guidelines.
