# Apple iOS, macOS and visionOS: out-of-bounds kernel write lets an app crash or write kernel memory

An out-of-bounds write flaw in Apple's kernel lets a local app crash the system or write kernel memory. Fixed by Apple's bounds checking in the 27.2 releases.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the device version under Settings > General > About (or `sw_vers -productVersion` on macOS) and compare it to the fixed versions below.

## Fix

- Update iOS and iPadOS to `27.2`
- Update macOS Golden Gate to `27.2`
- Update visionOS to `27.2`

## From the sources

An out-of-bounds write issue was addressed with improved bounds checking. This issue is fixed in iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2, macOS Golden Gate 27.2, visionOS 27.2. An app may be able to cause unexpected system termination or write kernel memory.
