# AOS-8 web interface buffer overflow lets unauthenticated attackers run OS commands

Unauthenticated buffer overflow (CWE-119) in a web interface endpoint of HPE Networking AOS-8, leading to OS command execution. CVSS 8.1 (AC:H). Fixed in the 22 Oct 2026 HPE bulletin; no known exploitation.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## Affected

- vendor:AOS-8 affected >= 8.10.0.0, <= 8.10.0.23; >= 8.12.0.0, <= 8.13.3.0 fixed 8.10.0.24, 8.13.3.1

## How to check

On the Mobility Conductor/Controller or Instant AP, run 'show version' and compare to affected ranges: AOS-8.10.0.0-8.10.0.23 and AOS-8.12.0.0-8.13.3.0. Restrict the web management interface to a trusted management network.

## Fix

Upgrade AOS-8 to 8.13.3.1 (8.12/8.13 branch) or 8.10.0.24 (8.10 branch), per secondary reports of HPE bulletin HPESBNW05162; confirm against the HPE page. EoM/EoS releases are affected and not patched.

- 2026-10-25T03:18:42+00:00 analyst — HPE bulletin HPESBNW05162 (22 Oct 2026) covers this CVE; HPE page is JS-only and unreadable here. Affected ranges from CCB Belgium reproduction; fixed releases 8.13.3.1/8.10.0.24 from GBHackers (secondary). No exploitation or PoC known (HPE, CISA SSVC none). Nothing marked verified. Endpoint and default exposure unknown. Settle by reading the HPE bulletin's CVE-2026-79888 entry. Note: NVD/VulDB CWE mismatch (VulDB says CWE-78; CNA says CWE-119).

## From the sources

A vulnerability in a certain web interface endpoint of AOS-8 devices could allow an unauthenticated remote attacker to trigger a buffer overflow. Successful exploitation could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary commands on the underlying operating system, leading to complete system compromise.
