# ArubaOS AOS-8 controllers: buffer overflow lets unauthenticated attackers run code as root

ArubaOS AOS-8 wireless controllers have a buffer overflow in an exposed interface. An unauthenticated attacker who reaches it can run arbitrary code as a privileged user on the underlying operating system.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## Affected

- vendor:ArubaOS (AOS-8) affected >= 8.13.0.0, <= 8.13.3.0; >= 8.10.0.0, <= 8.10.0.23 fixed 8.13.3.1, 8.10.0.24

## How to check

Check the running version on the controller with 'show version' and compare it to the affected ranges: 8.13.0.0 to 8.13.3.0 and 8.10.0.0 to 8.10.0.23.

## Fix

Upgrade to AOS-8 8.13.3.1 or 8.10.0.24, or later fixed releases.

- 2026-10-23T22:19:05+00:00 analyst — Triage was wrong: this is HPE Aruba Networking ArubaOS (AOS-8), not Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise. Source: HPE bulletin HPESBNW05162 (page text not scrapeable; details from NVD/CVE.org and cyberpress). HPE says no known public PoC or exploitation at release. Exact vulnerable interface not stated (listed only as 'AOS-8'); the bulletin has 72 CVEs. CVE.org starts the affected range at 8.12.0.0, NVD at 8.13.0.0.

## From the sources

Buffer overflow vulnerabilities exist in the affected interface of AOS-8 that could lead to unauthenticated remote code execution. Successful exploitation could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code as a privileged user on the underlying operating system.
