# Routinator: crafted RRDP rsync URI makes the RPKI validator exit

Routinator, an RPKI validator, exits when an rsync URI obtained over RRDP contains a path that cannot be stored on disk, such as overly long file names or folder names that clash with existing file names. An attacker who controls a publication point can stop the validator from running.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed Routinator version with `routinator --version` and compare it against the fixed release in the advisory.
- Confirm whether the instance fetches repositories over RRDP with `routinator --version` and the configuration file; the sources do not give a config key.

## Fix

- Upgrade Routinator to the fixed release listed in the NVD entry (version unknown from the sources).
- Until patched, monitor the validator process for unexpected exits; the sources do not name a workaround.

## From the sources

Routinator exits when an rsync URI for a file obtained over RRDP contains a path that cannot be stored on disk, such as too long file names, and folder names that overlap with existing file names.
