# Kantech Entrapass: hard-coded crypto key enables padding oracle attacks

Johnson Controls Kantech Entrapass versions before 9.20 use a hard-coded cryptographic key. An attacker can exploit this with a padding oracle attack to decrypt or forge protected data.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed Entrapass version in the server or client application about screen; unknown if the sources give a specific path
- Confirm whether the version is below `9.20`

## Fix

- Upgrade Kantech Entrapass to `9.20` or later; the sources do not name a specific patched build beyond this
- Check the vendor advisory from Johnson Controls for workarounds if an upgrade is delayed

## Timeline

## From the sources

Use of hard-coded cryptographic key vulnerability in Johnson Controls Kantech Entrapass allows Padding Oracle Crypto Attack.

This issue affects Kantech Entrapass: before 9.20.
