# Apple iOS and macOS: crafted image triggers integer overflow, code execution

An integer overflow in Apple's image processing lets a maliciously crafted image run arbitrary code on the device. Apple fixed it in iOS 26.7.2, iPadOS 26.7.2, iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS Golden Gate 27, macOS Sequoia 15.8 and macOS Tahoe 26.7.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the device version under Settings > General > About (iOS and iPadOS) or run `sw_vers` on macOS.
- Compare the result with the fixed builds: iOS and iPadOS `26.7.2` or `27`, macOS Tahoe `26.7`, macOS Sequoia `15.8`.

## Fix

- Update iOS and iPadOS to `26.7.2` or `27`.
- Update macOS Tahoe to `26.7`, macOS Sequoia to `15.8`, or install macOS Golden Gate `27`.

## From the sources

An integer overflow was addressed with improved input validation. This issue is fixed in iOS 26.7.2 and iPadOS 26.7.2, iOS 27 and iPadOS 27, macOS Golden Gate 27, macOS Sequoia 15.8, macOS Tahoe 26.7. Processing a maliciously crafted image may lead to arbitrary code execution.
