# Deserialization of Untrusted Data vulnerability in Apache Kylin

Apache Kylin versions 4 through 5.0.4 deserialize untrusted Java objects from an external cache service. An attacker who can make the cache service return crafted data can run code on the Kylin server.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

Check the deployed Kylin version in the installed package or release files; affected if it is 4.x through 5.0.4.
If an external cache service is configured for Kylin, note its host and who can write to it.

## Fix

Upgrade Apache Kylin to version 5.0.5.
Until then, restrict who can write to the external cache service (unknown whether this is a complete mitigation).

## Timeline

## From the sources

Deserialization of Untrusted Data vulnerability in Apache Kylin. Unsafe Java deserialization could happen from a broken external cache service.

This issue affects Apache Kylin: from 4 through 5.0.4.

Users are recommended to upgrade to version 5.0.5, which fixes the issue.
