# LORIS: issue tracker lets logged-in users edit issues outside their scope

LORIS, a self-hosted neuroimaging research web app, has a backend issue tracker that does not check edit permissions. An authenticated user can submit changes to issues they are not allowed to edit.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed LORIS version and compare it with the affected ranges: `16.0.0` to before `27.0.4`, and `28.0.0` to before `28.0.2`.
- Check whether the Issue Tracker module is enabled in the LORIS deployment.

## Fix

- LORIS `27.0.4` for the 27.x line
- LORIS `28.0.2` for the 28.x line
- Alternatively, disable the Issue Tracker module to remove access to the endpoint, as the sources state.

## From the sources

LORIS (Longitudinal Online Research and Imaging System) is a self-hosted web application that provides data- and project-management for neuroimaging research. In versions from 16.0.0 prior to 27.0.4 and from 28.0.0 prior to 28.0.2, the `issue_tracker` backend does not correctly verify edit access permissions, although the frontend restricts which issues a user may edit. An authenticated user can submit backend changes to issues outside the user's permitted edit scope. Deployments that no longer use Issue Tracker can disable the module to remove access to the endpoint. This issue is fixed in versions 27.0.4 and 28.0.2.
