# Apache Tomcat util accepted misconfigured CRLs

Apache Tomcat's tomcat-util silently ignores invalid Certificate Revocation Lists on FFM-based connectors, so revoked or invalid client certificates can be accepted. An attacker holding a certificate that should have been revoked can authenticate over TLS.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## Affected

- maven:org.apache.tomcat:tomcat-util affected >= 11.0.0-M1, <= 11.0.22 fixed 11.0.23
- maven:org.apache.tomcat:tomcat-util affected >= 10.1.0-M7, <= 10.1.55 fixed 10.1.56
- maven:org.apache.tomcat:tomcat-util affected >= 9.0.83, <= 9.0.118 fixed 9.0.119
- vendor:apache tomcat affected >= 9.0.83, < 9.0.119 fixed 9.0.119
- vendor:apache tomcat affected >= 10.1.0, < 10.1.56 fixed 10.1.56
- vendor:apache tomcat affected >= 11.0.0, < 11.0.23 fixed 11.0.23

## How to check

Check whether tomcat-util is on the classpath at an affected version (11.0.0-M1 to 11.0.22, 10.1.0-M7 to 10.1.55, 9.0.83 to 9.0.118).
Check whether a Tomcat connector uses the FFM implementation with a configured CRL.

## Fix

Upgrade tomcat-util to 11.0.23, 10.1.56 or 9.0.119.
Until then, unknown for a workaround; sources do not say.

## From the sources

Detection of Error Condition Without Action vulnerability in Apache Tomcat when configuring Certificate Revocation List (CRLs) for a FFM based connector. If an FFM connector was configured with invalid CRLs, the invalid CRLs were ignored meaning invalid certificates could be accepted.

This issue affects Apache Tomcat: from 11.0.0-M1 through 11.0.22, from 10.1.0-M7 through 10.1.55, from 9.0.83 through 9.0.118.

Users are recommended to upgrade to version 11.0.23, 10.1.56 or 9.0.119, which fixes the issue.
