# simple-help simplehelp: SimpleHelp versions 5.5.15 and prior and 6.0 pre-release versions contain an authentication bypass vulnerability in…

SimpleHelp, a remote support tool, accepts OIDC identity tokens at login without verifying their signature when OIDC is configured. An unauthenticated remote attacker can forge a token with arbitrary identity claims and get a fully authenticated technician session, and in some configurations bypass MFA.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## Affected

- vendor:SimpleHelp SimpleHelp affected ? fixed ?
- vendor:simple-help simplehelp affected < 5.5.16 fixed 5.5.16
- vendor:simple-help simplehelp affected = 6.0 fixed ?

## How to check

Check whether OIDC authentication is enabled in the SimpleHelp server configuration; unknown for the exact setting name.
Review the SimpleHelp version in use against the vendor advisory; unknown for affected version ranges.
Review SimpleHelp access logs for unexpected technician logins; unknown for log path.

## Fix

Apply the vendor patch or mitigation per the SimpleHelp advisory; fixed version unknown from sources.
If no mitigation exists, disable OIDC authentication or take the server off the internet, per CISA guidance to discontinue use if mitigations are unavailable.

## From the sources

SimpleHelp contains an authentication bypass vulnerability in the OIDC authentication flow. When OIDC authentication is configured, identity tokens submitted during login are accepted without verifying their cryptographic signature. In a vulnerable configuration, a remote, unauthenticated attacker can submit a forged token containing arbitrary identity claims to obtain a fully authenticated technician session. In some configurations, this may also allow bypass of multi-factor authentication.

CISA required action: Apply mitigations in accordance with vendor instructions, ensuring compliance with CISA’s BOD 26-04 Prioritizing Security Updates Based on Risk (see URL in Notes) guidance and CISA’s “Forensics Triage Requirements” (see URL in Notes). Follow applicable BOD 26-04 guidance for cloud services or discontinue use of the product if mitigations are unavailable. Stakeholders are responsible for evaluating each asset's internet exposure and ensuring adherence to BOD 26-04 patching guidelines.
