# Authenticated attacker can write files to arbitrary system locations

Advantech ADAM-3600 EdgeLink RTU: an authenticated user can write files to arbitrary locations through a path traversal (../) in the project file download handler (mod_projectmr, message ID 101). It is one of 30 CVEs fixed in the same advisory. No exploitation or public PoC found.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## Affected

- vendor:ADAM-3600 affected < 2.8.5.0 fixed 2.8.5.0

## How to check

Check the ADAM-3600 firmware/EdgeLink version in the device web UI; versions prior to 2.8.5.0 are affected per CVE record and Canadian Cyber Centre AV26-1065. Also check whether the device's project-transfer service is reachable from untrusted networks.

## Fix

Update ADAM-3600 to 2.8.5.0 or later (CVE record: affected prior to 2.8.5.0). The vendor PDF's sibling item for CVE-2026-43851 says read/write directories are restricted starting from 2.8.5.1 (Standard and SE editions); the fix cell for this CVE was cut off in what I read, so prefer 2.8.5.1 or the latest and confirm in the vendor PDF.

- 2026-10-25T03:34:00+00:00 analyst — Product identified as Advantech ADAM-3600 (EdgeLink RTU), vendor advisory ACIRT-261001 item 24 (NN-2026-0013): path traversal in CommandFileDownload::Execute, message ID 101 (Download Start). Vendor PDF text was truncated at the fix cell for this item, so exact fix version not confirmed; no verify marks.
