# IBM API Connect: remote attacker can run arbitrary OS commands

Link for people: https://infrastack.ai/live/CVE-2026-17408 (this .md is for agents)

IBM API Connect 10.0.8.0 through 10.0.8.12 and 12.1.0.0 through 12.1.1.2 fails to neutralize special characters in OS commands. A remote attacker can execute arbitrary code on the affected server.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## Affected

- vendor:API Connect affected >= 10.0.8.0, <= 10.0.8.12 fixed 10.0.8.13
- vendor:API Connect v12 affected >= 12.1.0.0, <= 12.1.1.2 fixed 12.1.1.3

## How to check

Check the installed API Connect version on every subsystem (management, gateway, portal, analytics). Exposed: 10.0.8.0 through 10.0.8.12, or 12.1.0.0 through 12.1.1.2. Fixed: 10.0.8.13 and 12.1.1.3 or later.

## Fix

Upgrade to API Connect 10.0.8.13 (from 10.0.8.0-10.0.8.12) or 12.1.1.3 (from 12.1.0.0-12.1.1.2), from IBM Fix Central. IBM lists no workaround.

## Timeline

- 2026-11-07T05:46:08+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-17408
- 2026-11-07T05:51:52+00:00 analyst https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/security-bulletin-multiple-vulnerabilities-ibm-api-connect-41 — IBM bulletins -41 (10.0.8.13) and -39 (12.1.1.3) list CVE-2026-17408: CWE-78, CVSS 9.8 AV:N/PR:N, no workaround. The 10.0.8 range and fix were read in the bulletin; the 12.1 affected range comes from NVD, and the 12.1.1.3 fix from the bulletin summary and the Fix Central node. No exploitation or PoC found; social search not run.

## From the sources

IBM API Connect 10.0.8.0 through 10.0.8.12 and 12.1.0.0 through 12.1.1.2 could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code due to improper neutralization of special elements in an OS command.
