# IBM API Connect: remote attacker bypasses authentication and assigns roles

Link for people: https://infrastack.ai/live/CVE-2026-17379 (this .md is for agents)

IBM API Connect versions 10.0.8.0 through 10.0.8.12 and 12.1.0.0 through 12.1.1.2 do not properly verify cryptographic signatures. A remote attacker can bypass authentication and assign themselves arbitrary roles.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## Affected

- vendor:API Connect affected >= 10.0.8.0, <= 10.0.8.12 fixed 10.0.8.13
- vendor:API Connect V12 OnPrem affected >= 12.1.0.0, <= 12.1.1.2 fixed 12.1.1.3

## How to check

Check your API Connect version (management, gateway, portal, analytics subsystems). Exposed if it is 10.0.8.0 to 10.0.8.12 or 12.1.0.0 to 12.1.1.2 (IBM lists V12 OnPrem for the 12.x range). Fixed at 10.0.8.13 or 12.1.1.3 and later.

## Fix

Upgrade to 10.0.8.13 (10.0.8.x line) or v12.1.1.3 (v12 line). IBM lists no workaround.

## Timeline

- 2026-11-07T06:10:14+00:00 analyst https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/security-bulletin-multiple-vulnerabilities-ibm-api-connect-39 — Read IBM's two bulletins (-39 for v12 OnPrem, -41 for 10.0.8); both list CVE-2026-17379, CVSS 7.4, workarounds None. No exploitation or PoC checked beyond bulletin.

## From the sources

IBM API Connect 10.0.8.0 through 10.0.8.12 and 12.1.0.0 through 12.1.1.2 could allow a remote attacker to bypass authentication and assign arbitrary roles due to improper verification of cryptographic signatures.
