# IBM API Connect: hard-coded cryptographic key exposes sensitive information locally

Link for people: https://infrastack.ai/live/CVE-2026-17356 (this .md is for agents)

IBM API Connect versions 12.1.0.0 through 12.1.1.2 contain a hard-coded cryptographic key. A local attacker who can read the software can use that key to obtain sensitive information.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## Affected

- vendor:API Connect V12 OnPrem affected >= 12.1.0.0, <= 12.1.1.2 fixed 12.1.1.3

## How to check

Find your installed API Connect V12 OnPrem version. Affected: v12.1.0.0 through v12.1.1.2. Fixed: v12.1.1.3. The 10.0.8 line is not listed for this CVE in IBM's 10.0.8 bulletin.

## Fix

Upgrade IBM API Connect V12 OnPrem to v12.1.1.3 (Fix Central: https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/7290205). IBM lists no workaround.

## Timeline

- 2026-11-07T06:13:05+00:00 analyst https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/security-bulletin-multiple-vulnerabilities-ibm-api-connect-39 — Read IBM bulletin ...-api-connect-39: CVE-2026-17356 (CWE-321, CVSS 8.7) listed, V12 OnPrem v12.1.0.0-v12.1.1.2, fixed v12.1.1.3, no workarounds. Bulletin says 'local attacker' but vector is AV:N/AC:H; discrepancy unexplained. 10.0.8 bulletin (-41) does not list this CVE. No exploitation or PoC checked beyond bulletin; social search skipped.

## From the sources

IBM API Connect 12.1.0.0 through 12.1.1.2 could allow a local attacker to obtain sensitive information due to the use of a hard-coded cryptographic key.
