# IBM API Connect: authorization bypass lets logged-in users read and change documents

Link for people: https://infrastack.ai/live/CVE-2026-17049 (this .md is for agents)

IBM API Connect versions 12.1.0.0 through 12.1.1.2 let a remote authenticated attacker bypass authorization through user-controlled keys. The attacker can obtain sensitive information and modify arbitrary documents.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## Affected

- vendor:API Connect affected >= 12.1.0.0, <= 12.1.1.2 fixed 12.1.1.3

## How to check

Check your IBM API Connect V12 version (management, gateway, portal, analytics subsystems). Versions 12.1.0.0 through 12.1.1.2 are affected; v12.1.1.3 is the fixed release. On Kubernetes/OpenShift check the APIConnectCluster operand version; on VMware/OVA check the appliance version.

## Fix

Upgrade IBM API Connect to v12.1.1.3 (IBM Fix Central)

## Timeline

- 2026-11-07T05:45:58+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-17049
- 2026-11-07T06:00:23+00:00 analyst https://app.opencve.io/cve/CVE-2026-17049 — NVD/OpenCVE: affected 12.1.0.0-12.1.1.2, CNA solution upgrade to v12.1.1.3. IBM bulletin 7295635 (v12.1.1.3 fixes, 'Authorization Bypass Through User-Controlled Key' class) fetched but truncated before CVE-2026-17049 appeared, so I could not confirm the CVE inside IBM's list; fix taken from OpenCVE vendor solution plus IBM release page 7290205. Nothing marked verified. No exploitation or PoC found (Feedly says none).

## From the sources

IBM API Connect 12.1.0.0 through 12.1.1.2 could allow a remote authenticated attacker to obtain sensitive information and modify arbitrary documents due to authorization bypass through user-controlled keys.
