# Checkmk: Setup search reset_url flaw allows script run in admin sessions

Checkmk's Setup in-page search does not validate the reset_url parameter, so a crafted link can run attacker script in the session of a logged-in user with Setup access or redirect them to an external site. Exploitation requires the user to open the link and click Reset or submit an empty search.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed Checkmk version with `omd version` or the Help > About page in the web UI, and compare it to the fixed releases listed in the fix section.
- Confirm whether users with Setup access use the in-page Setup search.

## Fix

- Upgrade Checkmk 2.5.x to `2.5.0p15` or later.
- Upgrade Checkmk 2.4.0 to `2.4.0p38` or later.
- Upgrade Checkmk 2.3.0 to `2.3.0p51` or later.
- Checkmk 2.2.0 is end of life; the sources give no patched 2.2 release, so move to a supported branch.

## From the sources

Improper validation of the reset_url parameter of the Setup in-page search in Checkmk <2.5.0p15, <2.4.0p38, <2.3.0p51 and 2.2.0 (EOL) allows an attacker to execute arbitrary script in the session of an authenticated user with Setup access, or to redirect that user to an arbitrary external site, by tricking the user into opening a crafted URL and clicking the Reset button or submitting an empty search.
