# OpenEMR: billing ACL bypass lets logged-in users record fake patient payments

Link for people: https://infrastack.ai/live/CVE-2026-124489 (this .md is for agents)

OpenEMR, an electronic health records system, has a broken access control flaw in its patient portal payment page. A low-privilege logged-in user can change the patient ID parameters to view payment pages and record fraudulent payments for any patient, corrupting billing records.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## Affected

- vendor:OpenEMR affected range not listed fixed no fixed version listed

## How to check

- Check the OpenEMR version in the admin panel or footer; versions before `8.3.0` are affected.
- Review whether `portal/portal_payment.php` is reachable by portal or low-privilege accounts.

## Fix

- OpenEMR versions before `8.3.0`: move to `8.3.0` or later.

## From the sources

OpenEMR before 8.3.0 contains a broken access control vulnerability in portal/portal_payment.php that allows low-privilege authenticated users to bypass billing ACL checks by tampering patient identifiers. Attackers can modify the pid and form_pid parameters to view payment pages and record fraudulent payment receipts for arbitrary patients, corrupting billing records.
