# JetBrains IntelliJ IDEA: imported settings archive symlinks allow code execution

Link for people: https://infrastack.ai/live/CVE-2026-123841 (this .md is for agents)

Importing a settings archive into JetBrains IntelliJ IDEA before 2026.3 could run code, because symlinks inside the archive were followed. An attacker who supplies a crafted settings archive can get code executed on the developer's machine.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Open IntelliJ IDEA and check the version under Help > About, or run `idea --version` where the launcher is on the PATH
- Compare the installed build against `2026.3`; anything earlier is listed as affected

## Fix

- JetBrains IntelliJ IDEA: upgrade to `2026.3` or later

## Timeline

- 2026-11-06T17:43:13+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-123841

## From the sources

In JetBrains IntelliJ IDEA before 2026.3 code execution was possible via symlinks in an imported settings archive
