# Novel web app: flawed authorization lets remote users read restricted chapter content

Link for people: https://infrastack.ai/live/CVE-2026-123676 (this .md is for agents)

The xxyopen novel application up to version 3.5.0 fails to check authorization properly in BookServiceImpl.getBookContentAbout when handling the chapterId argument. A remote attacker can manipulate that argument to access book chapter content they should not be able to read.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check whether the deployed novel version is `3.5.0` or earlier, and whether commit `966c4bdde3521dc0a165d15a2acff66ee33eaaa7` is applied to BookServiceImpl.java

## Fix

- Apply the patch named `966c4bdde3521dc0a165d15a2acff66ee33eaaa7` from the project repository
