# JetBrains IntelliJ IDEA: opening untrusted projects can run code via ShellCheck path

Link for people: https://infrastack.ai/live/CVE-2026-123304 (this .md is for agents)

In JetBrains IntelliJ IDEA before 2026.3, a project can configure a ShellCheck path that the IDE executes, so opening an untrusted project can run code on the developer's machine. An attacker who supplies a malicious project gets code execution as the developer's user.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the IntelliJ IDEA version under Help > About, or run `idea --version` where the CLI launcher is installed.
- Look for IDEA versions below `2026.3` on developer machines.
- Review whether the ShellCheck path is configured in any project you open.

## Fix

- JetBrains IntelliJ IDEA: move to `2026.3` or later (fixed version per the description).

## Timeline

- 2026-11-06T11:41:25+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-123304

## From the sources
